Between sea and mountain, 14 kilometres from beaches, is a place, Tourrettes-sur-Loup, where, a century ago, violets chose to grow. Still today the cultivation of this delicate flower constitutes one of the main activities and the extent of production earned the village its title “City of Violets”. A fortified site in the 11th century, with houses forming ramparts, Tourrettes possesses an original architectural richness linked around a half-moon central route. Appreciated by film producers from 1925, Tourrettes became a meeting place for musicians, painters, writers and poets, and saw a creation revival in the fifties. Artisan weavers settled there and, in their impetus, attracted other disciplines of quality. Today, more than thirty workshops and galleries make it a place of high standing for arts and crafts on the French Riviera.
